Google Earth KML Greatest Hits
KMLs (Keyhole Markup Language) are files that can be viewed in the Google Earth geographic browser. Google has collected interesting examples of KMLs that organizations, communities, and users like you have created using Google Earth and Google Maps. You can access these KMLs by clicking on "Add Content" in Google Earth. Or take a moment to explore some of our favorite KMLs below (click to preview in your browser).

This KML provides a near real-time (previous 30 days) examination of current sea ice concentration conditions in the Arctic. Updated daily, this KML which is presented as a series of animated overlays, can provide useful data to those studying climate change, in particular the potential for sea levels rising. To view the animation, simply press the play button located in the top section of the image viewer. Note: It is likely that you will need to allow the animation to run through once or twice to enable the image overlays to load fully.

Sea surface temperature is now recognized as one of the most important variables related to the global ocean atmosphere system. It is a key indicator for climate change, is widely applied to studies of upper ocean processes and air-sea heat exchange, and is used as a boundary condition for numerical weather prediction (NWP). This KML allows you to see a global map of sea surface temperature measured by NASA's Aqua satellite,through clouds, something no satellite sensor before it was able to do across the whole globe.
